CII-ITC award Indian companies for efforts in sustainable development - The Economic Times

CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development awarded those Indian companies, which made a significant contribution to the society while accomplishing their business operations in the spirit of sustainability.
Anand Sharma, minister of commerce and industry gave the awards and said that sustainable development is integral for the economic development of the country. He applauded the efforts of the winners and said, "There are huge gaps still when it comes to energy distribution, growth, nutrition and employment. Corporate can bridge these gaps to facilitate equitable distribution."
Entering into its sixth year, the award recognised the efforts of both big and small industries in the area of sustainable development. It lauds the efforts of the companies, which have introduced sustainability in their business process and also showed profit in their balance sheets.
Not only the CSR activities but also the active business operations of the companies were taken into consideration, which directly transformed the life of many.
For the first time, 'Sustainability trophy', the highest recognition was bagged by Tata Chemicals Ltd. - Crop nutrition and agri business, Babrala for being the most energy efficient fertiliser plant and developing India's first customised fertiliser as a complete farm solution.
The other winners in various levels of recognition were Tata Steel ltd, which won the Sustainability prize. The other big winners were Toyota Kirloskar motor pvt ltd, Tata Consultancy Services, Ambuja Cements, Bhilai steel plant, SAIL, Reliance industries - Hazira manufacturing division, and Tata chemicals - Mithapur plant.
Paharpur business centre, Biodiversity Conservation India pvt ltd, Kennametal India, Shree cements, Yes bank ltd, SRF ltd- chemicals division were some of the relatively new names with small turnover which made a big impact through their sustainable efforts.
