ITC gets 2012 World Business & Development Award - The Hindu Business Line

ITC Ltd has been conferred the '2012 World Business and Development Award'for the transformational rural initiatives in social and farm forestry programmes. Conferred at the at the Rio+20 United Nations Summit, instituted by various international agencies, including the United Nations Development Programme, the International Chamber of Commerce and the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), in partnership with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency and the UN Global Compact, said a company statement.
The Award was received by ITC chairman Y C Deveshwar. ITC's social and farm forestry programmes provides sustainable livelihoods to rural wasteland owners by helping convert their wastelands into pulpwood plantations.
The company's R&D department develops high yielding, disease resistant clonal saplings with shorter harvesting cycles.
