ITC celebrates second anniversary of National Recycling Day - Deccan Chronicle

Assembly speaker D. Jayakumar inaugurated the second anniversary celebrations of National Recycling Day organised by the ITC on Sunday evening at St. George High School.
While interacting with school children, he spoke about the significance of recycling and effective waste management. Over 10,000 school children and 5000 delegates participated in the event.
ITC's Wealth out of Waste (WOW) programme aims at creating awareness about Reduce-Reuse-Recycle to protect and restore the environment. The programme implemented by its Paperboards and Speciality Papers Division also aims to inculcate the habit of source segregation among school children and the public.
The event also marked discussions on the importance and the value of recycling and to involve the country in a consolidated effort to preserve natural resources and to understand the worth of waste regeneration.
The WOW programme also takes up the responsibility of collecting dry waste like paper, plastics, and metals. Speaking on the occasion, executive director of ITC,Mr. Pradeep Dhobale, said that the company had launched the initiative with the support of the stakeholders including schools, corporate bodies and the state government.
"To enhance awareness and to pledge support to this initiative, we decided to commemorate July 1 as 'National Recycling Day' "he said. At present over 200 schools in Hyderabad under the WOW programme collect waste and segregate them.
Also present were Minister for Environment B.V. Ramanaa, Minister for Industries P.Thangamani, Principal secretary- Environment and Forests, Mr.C.V Shankar and actor Vikram.
