Sustainability in Action
Integrated Agricultural Development
ITC's integrated agricultural development programme promotes a combination of solutions for optimizing water management and enhancing farm productivity. ITC supports farmers to adopt efficient irrigation practices, propagates the diversification of rain-fed crops and encourages farmers to produce and apply organic compost. Continuous farm extension services through demonstration plots speed up the adoption of best practices. Training and supervision foster the sharing of information and experience among farmers.
The use of water saving technologies like drip and sprinkler systems ensures optimum usage of available water. Group irrigation wells extend the benefits of water sharing to economically weaker farmers. Organic manuring activities through vermicompost and NADEP technology help restore soil nutrients and produce cleaner crops.
The productivity gains of organic fertilizer are being embraced by more and more farmers. Farm-based vermicompost pits are an additional source of family enterprise and income.
